Welcome

Phew! At last, here I am in front of a computer and I can start compiling a few pages to keep you all amused. We’ve been here a week and are starting to get in to the groove a bit (I’ve got over the ‘flu!). I’ve had no luck connecting to the internet at the house despite phone engineer visits etc so I’m sitting in local internet cafe with slow dial-up connection and chopped up computers – let’s see how this works…

Below is a map so you can see where we are. Our village is called Moti Pethan and Bharti’s dad lives here (and was born here 73 years ago!). Bharti’s mum comes from a village called Karadi a few kilometers away. I will post pictures from both villages to show you what typical houses look like, how people cook, what jobs they do, oh and some of the many animals here!

It’s been great to read messages from some of you already and we are all looking forward to hearing from you via this blog over the coming weeks. Next week we are planning to go travelling for a couple of weeks around Gujarat and will try to keep you updated via internet cafes – probably text rather than photos. We were going to travel in Maharastra and Karnatika but the attack in Mumbai has made that difficult so we will stick closer to home for a while.

    guess what?
i had a training session at work today “equality and diversity” – can’t remember the names of the people now but it was the woman who was your daughter in “the corner shop” and a lady with big curly hair (we kept trying to work out when we have met – but i think it was probably just on your doorstep at some point)and a bloke wit long hair and webbed fingers!!!

    :-)

    it went down really well
so much better than the usual dry stuff we get in our training sessions

relieved to see u are all ok and having a great time.
fab pictures and look forward to seeing your adventures
Birmingham seems very quiet and peaceful- I’m assumng that’s just a coincidence since you left, whereas India is a bit chaotic at the moment.
hope all of you and your family are well.
    speak soon
    love nirja
